We live in a day and age where gamers rely on the written word of others to justify a purchase. Some people take reviews too seriously, letting the writer’s opinion completely cloud their own, possibly even before an opinion of their own is even formulated. Yeah, reviews do help when thinking about making a purchase or not, especially since $60 isn’t exactly an all too friendly price. But a review shouldn’t be the end-all, be-all factor.
And just as gamers take the words of a review very seriously, so too do the developers of the games in question. Let’s look at Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2. The game’s director/writer, Enric Alvarez, recently spoke with Eurogamer Spain about the game’s current reception, and his thoughts on it. About the low review scores, specifically Edge’s 4/10 review, he had this to say:
“It’s true that Edge liked the first game but they didn’t enjoy this one as much. I also think that what happened is terribly unfair. One must be blind or stupid to give a 4/10 mark to a game with whis quality. With a 4/10 people think it’s a crappy game, badly done, one that’s broken with gameplay mechanics that don’t work and awful graphics. If I were a reviewer I’d know this, and I don’t think that LoS2 deserves the score of a crappy game.”
There’s already been a lot of talk circulating about Mr. Alvarez and how the members of his team view him, and this just adds more fuel to that fire. You can check out much more from the interview in the source link below.
