Castlevania: Harmony of Despair was released on the Xbox 360, via XBLA as part of their Summer of Arcade promotion, last year. The game took the franchise and its 2D side-scrolling gameplay into the realm of muliplayer. Players were able to take on the role of multiple series all-stars like Alucard and Soma Cruz, as well an 8-bit Simon Belmont, who was added via DLC post-launch. Being a multiplayer oriented title, Harmony of Despair was best experienced in a co-op setting, while there still was an actual competitive versus mode. Up to 6 players could make their way through the game’s multiple stages all the while fighting classic enemies and bosses, which were actually assets re-used from the DS entries in the franchise.
Now it seems that the game is making its way to the Playstation 3, if recent rumors are to be believed. As of right now, Konami has yet to confirm this, but they have been contacted over this so we’ll hopefully have some sort of response for you later today. It wouldn’t be too unexpected to see this game land on the PS3, hell, even Iga stated at E3 last year how said notion would be possible if the XBLA release was met with a reasonable amount of sales. The question is, will Konami release this via PSN as a stand-alone release like it was originally released on XBLA, or would it be bundled together with all the post-launch DLC? We’ll have to wait and see, but I’m hoping for the latter.
