Capcom's Resident Evil Franchise Reaches New Sales Milestones

Capcom has updated the sales data for its “Platinum Titles,” featuring games that have surpassed a million copies sold. While the Monster Hunter series continues to dominate, the Resident Evil franchise has shown remarkable growth, particularly with its titles released since 2017. This includes the Ethan Winters duology and the remakes of Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, and Resident Evil 4.

For Ethan Winters’ storyline, Capcom reports that Resident Evil 7: Biohazard (2017) has shipped 14 million units, while its direct sequel, Resident Evil Village (2021), has reached 10.5 million units. The latter is close to achieving Capcom’s impressive sales milestone of 11 million copies.

Among the remakes, Resident Evil 2 (2019) leads with 14.5 million copies sold, making it Capcom’s third-best-selling game of all time, behind Monster Hunter World and Monster Hunter Rise. The Resident Evil 3 remake (2020) follows with 9.2 million copies shipped, while the 2023 remake of Resident Evil 4 has sold 8 million units.

With these strong sales, Resident Evil remains Capcom’s most successful franchise. In related news, Resident Evil 9 is currently in development. Rumors suggest that Leon S. Kennedy and Jill Valentine will be the main protagonists, with the game’s story set four years after the events of Resident Evil Village.
