Capcom Officially Confirms New Resident Evil

Resident Evil

Capcom has officially announced that they’re working on a new entry in the Resident Evil franchise during their CAPCOM NEXT – Summer 2024 stream.

The big news dropped right towards the end of Capcom’s stream as a “one more thing” announcement. The short, interview-style video featured director Kōshi Nakanishi saying the following:

We’re making a new Resident Evil. It was really difficult to figure out what to do after [Resident Evil7. But I found it, and to be honest it feels substantial. I can’t share any details just yet, but  I hope you’re excited for the day I can.

While it is not certain he’s talking about Resident Evil 9 (after all, it could be another side entry in the series), Nakanishi mentioning the difficulty of figuring out “what to do after 7” seems like a clear indication of him talking about a much-awaited new entry in the main series. Resident Evil Village was released in 2021 (and has just recently passed 10 million copies sold).

Nakanishi was the lead designer on RE5, and the director on Mercenaries 3D, RE Revelations 1, and RE7. He also discussed how this new RE title was conceived after working on RE7.

Once we know more about the upcoming title, we will keep you updated. In the meantime, you can watch the CAPCOM NEXT – Summer 2024 below.
