Capcom is readying its resources to support the big platforms this year, particularly the PS3. While it’s not entirely a case of putting all of your eggs in one basket, the company is really looking to push out 16 titles for Sony’s console, despite the recent PSN snafu.
The Xbox 360 is also looking to see an increase in Capcom titles over the next year.
Unfortunately, there’s very little love for Nintendo’s consoles. Capcom is planning on cutting back support for both the Wii and the Nintendo 3DS/Nintendo DS. The company plans to only release 2 Wii titles in the next year, compared to the 5 of the first-half of this year. Same goes for the 3DS, with only 9 in the upcoming year, compared to 11 in the last year.
Here’s a chart courtesy of Andriasang that explains things a little clearer.
It’s a little confusing, and there’s no guarantee that Capcom won’t step-up support later in the year, depending on sales of the games that they do release for these consoles.
We’d heard about Capcom pulling out support for the Wii before, but the numbers are pretty damning. With a big third-party publisher like Capcom pulling out a big chunk of support right under Nintendo, could this be the swan song for the Wii? The 3DS is still in its infancy, with what should have been the launch titles appearing next month, so this is likely to change.
One thing is certain however – Nintendo’s better show the world what it’s next console is capable of at E3, or risk losing all of the strides forward that it had made with the success of the Wii.
