Capcom confirms Resident Evil 7 and a Mystery Project For TGS (Updated)

(UPDATE) Fun times with inaccurate sources. Despite everything I was reading pointing to Project Palm being some unknown, mystery game yet to be announced by Capcom, it turns out that it was, in fact, revealed quite some time ago. It’s a mobile game aimed at young women. Of course, there’s still every chance that the as-of-yet unannounced RE game will indeed be making an appearance, especially considering they’re kind of running out of, you know, year to announce it. We’ll just have to wait and see.

Oh boy oh boy oh boy.

It was more or less a given that Resident Evil VII: Biohazard was going to be making an appearance at Tokyo Game Show next month, especially after the cryptic image that was sent out to Resident Evil Ambassador members. We can more or less expect another trailer, more gameplay, and maybe, just maybe, an answer to what the finger does. But on top of this, there’s also the announcement that they’re bringing an as-of-yet unannounced mystery game to the show, called Project Palm, which is obviously a code name. Now while other news outlets are predicting that it will turn out to be a new Dragon’s Dogma title, or perhaps new information on Deep Down, the science-fiction/fantasy game Capcom announced years ago and has been quiet about ever since – we have our own ideas.

There’s every chance that Project Palm is a new Resident Evil title, as teased by Capcom earlier this year. There is still an as-of-yet-unannounced Resident Evil game that has been promised to be announced this year. We already know about Resident Evil 7, Resident Evil REmake 2, so what could this be? Well, there’s a lot of possibilities. The most obvious is that it might be Revelations 3, which would be a no-brainer after the success of the series thus far, but there’s also the possibility that it’s the long-rumored HD remaster of Resident Evil: Outbreak. It’s something fans have been clamoring for ever since this new wave of remastered titles started. It’s announcement this year and subsequent release next year would also fit with the schedule these remasters have been on since REmake HD released in 2015. We’ve been getting one major remaster a year, and since there aren’t any more numbered games to remaster (especially with this year’s re-releases of Resident Evils 4-6, which Capcom clarified to us are not part of the same remaster program that REmake and Zero were in), leaving a side game, like Outbreak, the most obvious choice.

We’ll have to wait and see, but there’s a very real possibility that we’re getting another RElated (heh) announcement at TGS. We’ll keep our eyes out for any more information, and keep all of you lovely people updated. In the meantime, Resident Evil VII: Biohazard releases January 24th 2017, and Resident Evil 2 REmake is TBA, but probably around RE2‘s 20th anniversary in 2018 would be a good bet.
