Masaaki Yamagiwa, one of the producers working on Bloodborne, stated in an interview that the game will use 30 frames per second, since that gives the best experience. This news comes at a time where many other developers receive criticism for purposefully designing their games with 30fps and weird resolutions in mind.
When I initially read this news, I got pretty upset as well, but apparently part of the statement was not translated correctly. The initial reports stated that Mr. Yamagiwa considered 30fps the best for all action games and that the preferred standard of 60 was only useful for shooters. This was corrected in a tweet:
We are to assign 1080p/30fps for #Bloodborne considering its game designs, but didn't say it’s the best choice for all action games.

I am not happy with this, but I am at least glad that the game will run at a neat 1080p resolution and the producer didn’t use meaningless statements like “it’s more cinematic” or “nobody can see the difference”. Still, I find it hard to swallow that halving the framerate we have been playing games in for a long time somehow improves the experience and, judging by the reactions on forums, it seems many gamers think the same.
What is your take on this matter?
