According to a recent job listing at Blizzard, we might be getting a new Diablo game sooner than we thought.
Given how freaking long it takes Blizzard to come out with a new game (over a decade between StarCraft and StarCraft 2, over a decade between Diablo 2 and 3, and I’m really sorry if you’ve been hoping they’ll ever make another traditional WarCraft game) this news is pretty surprising. A dozen or so listings hiring for a new project set in the Diablo universe, including a new game director who’s supposed to “lead the Diablo series into the future”, and a “”vision holder for the franchise” have opened up. Now, it’s important to note that this doesn’t necessarily mean that this project will be Diablo 4, it could very well be another expansion for Diablo 3, or a spin-off of some sort. Diablo: Ghost or something. Diablowatch. Who knows.
This information seems well timed as Josh Mosqueira, director of Diablo 3, has just left Blizzard. According to an email Blizzard sent to Polygon, “With Diablo 3 in a good place at this point, Josh felt that now was a good time to pursue other opportunities with minimal impact to the team,we’ll be filling the director role either from within Blizzard or externally.” Looks like they’ve opted for the latter.
Guess we’ll find out more in the months to come. Although like I said, Blizzard takes forever to get stuff out. With the company’s attention on trying to get Overwatch to a more balanced state, and probably an expansion of some sort coming soon, I doubt that we’ll be hearing much soon. We’ll keep our eyes out, tho.
