After a lot of feedback (i.e. consumer outrage), Bethesda has released the minimum requirements for The Evil Within on PC. These new requirements will not display the game with the best of settings (nor full 1080p visuals), but it does give us some much needed information and comfort that we’ll be able to play the game without the ridiculous requirements that were posted last week. The minimum requirements are below.
- Minimum Requirements
- OS: windows 7/8.1
- GPU: GTX 460 or an equivalent 1 GB VRAM card
- CPU: i7 or an equivalent 4+ core processor
- RAM: 4 GB
- HDD: 50 GB
The publisher’s post goes on to say that those with the full recommended requirements will be able to play The Evil Within with full anti-aliasing, full shadow quality, motion blur, tessellation, SSAO, and 1080p visuals. I may be wrong here, but it looks like the whole reason this situation occurred was because the game’s recommended settings were actually the settings required to play the game at max, not something manageable but still visually pretty. If so, perhaps Bethesda should look into its phrasing next time as this incident no doubt had an effect on PC sales and consumer confidence. If I can play the game comfortably with my 3GB GPU without max AA, SSAO and tessellation, I’ll be perfectly content.
