Bandai Namco’s HUGE exciting Dark Souls III news finally revealed

Yesterday, Bandai Namco made a surprising announcement that they had some “big” Dark Souls news, which is an odd move this close to release. Fans guessed at a Demon’s Souls remaster, Dark Souls remake and many other large and speculative announcements, sending hype through the roof for some. Bandai Namco also assured fans that the announcement wouldn’t spoil anything of their upcoming release, as the fans of the series (myself included) are understandably sensitive about anything spoiling their experience of From Software’s latest title.

As Rely On Horror’s chief Underwhelmist, I suspected this would be some sort of boring or uninteresting event or tedious DLC plan. Nothing big would come just before release, but the publisher treated it as such so it had my attention. Even so, how could they possibly reach the lofty heights of #DarkSoulsWings? That’s probably netted them a good million sales in the UK alone. Genius.

Well, the reveal is finally here…!

And… it’s basically a t-shirt. Yeah, they opened a website full of new merchandise from hats to hoodies and t-shirts. At least there’s no spoilers as promised. It doesn’t stop there, though, the designs, in my opinion, (it’s my opinion) are uninspired and just plain bad. They do not reflect or capture the game or its feel in any way. Miyasaki must be on a massive holiday or something. The Bioshock merch is done right and mostly pretty great. This is not. The inclusion of “nice chest ahead” as well is sure to fuel some flames of their own. Good move.

I couldn’t be more excited for Dark Souls III, I’ve stocked up on crispy M&Ms, Lucozade (They ruined Sunny D), and crisps for Tuesday. I am a huge fan and loads of us at Rely can’t wait, but all this marketing hype turning out to be basically nothing, board games on Kickstarter, along with the release date fiasco is disappointing and confusing. Look out for our review, though, as it appears the quality of the game luckily does not reflect the bizarre marketing.

If you’d like to see the first few hours played by our Thomas regardless, you can do so here but, of course, spoilers.

Praise you!
