Update: NeoGaf user Chariot, one with supposed connections to Namco Bandai, has sent a message to Volker Rieck from FDS File Defense Service, the agency working on behalf of Namco Bandai. It seems that an accidental mistaken classification of Durante’s mod occurred when FDS File Defense was tasked with shutting down the illegal distribution of debug code from Dark Souls. So simply, someone mistook what Durante’s mod was, and Rieck will be speaking to Namco Bandai to correct the situation. In the meantime, Durante is allowed to distribute DSFix once again.
Original Post: DSFix has long been the most popular mod for Dark Souls, mainly because it alleviates much of the issues the PC version of the game is plagued with. Unfortunately it looks like Bandai Namco wants DSFix to be removed, as they have now filed a DMCA complaint against DSFix to have it removed from Dropbox.
I can’t imagine why Bandai Namco would do this; DSFix is the only means to play the PC version of Dark Souls in proper resolutions and at higher framerates. In other words: it makes their game playable.
We’ll keep you updated on the situation should anything change.
