Get ready Left 4 Dead fans, a new trailer for the upcoming first-person co-op zombie shooter Back 4 Blood just dropped on YouTube! The title is being developed by Turtle Rock Studios and is composed of the development team responsible for the original Valve classic. Running at just under four minutes, the new teaser showcases all the wonderful action and goriness we’ve come to expect from these games. It also details what players can expect once the closed alpha goes live this Thursday. If you’re interested, you can still register for a chance to take part in it by going here.
This spiritual successor to Left 4 Dead will include all the trademark features from that series, such as the return of the AI direction which alters encounters and item spawns to keep each playthrough different. Alpha players will be able to choose one of four characters (known as Cleaners) with a total of eight to choose from, once the full game is launched. However, unlike L4D, each playable character will have their own unique secondary weapon.
There’s also the introduction of what the trailer calls “corruption cards,” which are played at the start of each round and can alter the gameplay, such as making ammo scarce or generating fog to make the experience more difficult. Players will also be able to play their own cards to their own advantage or to even things out.
Here’s what Turtle Rock Studios had to say about the game’s storyline:
You are at the center of a war against the Ridden. These once-human hosts of a deadly parasite have turned into terrifying creatures bent on devouring what remains of civilization. With humanity’s extinction on the line, it’s up to you and your friends to take the fight to the enemy, eradicate the Ridden, and reclaim the world.
Fans can tune-in to the Back 4 Blood Gameplay Showcase on December 17th, 2020 at 10 a.m. PST to see even more gameplay and listen to development team members discuss the game.
Back 4 Blood is set to launch on June 22nd, 2021 and will be available for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Steam, and the Epic Games Store.
