Let’s be honest here for a second: there’s a ton of horror games that involve hospitals, nurses or lunatics. Hospitals and the people that inhabit them are pretty scary be default, what with all the weird equipment, the unfortunate patients and the endless corridors. However, if you’re a veteran of the genre, then there is a good chance that you’re sick and tired of seeing the same old hospital levels appear everywhere. If that’s the case, then perhaps the Asylum Jam is something for you.
The goal of this “jam” is to make a game in 48 hours that does not include any kind of medical influence, meaning psych wards, asylums and deranged patients are out of the question. The goal is to show developers that you can still make a great horror experience without relying on overused (and inaccurate) stereotypes, as well as to counter the negative stigmatization of mental disorders in media.
I think is actually a pretty good cause and I am interested in seeing who will sign up for the jam and what they’ll create.
