There’s no denying that Amnesia: The Dark Descent, the first in Frictional Games’ iconic horror series, had a huge impact on the genre. Since then, other studios have been wanting to replicate that sense of terror that gamers felt back in 2010. More than a decade later and the franchise is still going, and fans will be pleased to know that the demo for Amnesia: The Bunker is out now.
Described as more open world, this upcoming entry in the series takes place in a WW1 bunker, hence the name. We’ve already seen enough teasers in the past to know that this is going to have the Frictional stamp all over it. It’s got darkness, mysteries, that sense of dread, and what will likely be the trademark lack of defense. Whether it’ll be able to reach the heights of Dark Descent remains to be seen at this stage.
So when can you expect to play the full game? Unfortunately, Amnesia: The Bunker has been delayed a couple of times already. However, it’s now said to be finally coming out on June 6. The studio had to push the dates back a little bit, with the game initially scheduled to launch back in March. All being well, we’re on the home stretch for the final release, so hopefully the extra wait will have been worth it.
If you aren’t familiar with the Amnesia brand, it’s definitely worth checking them all out. The 2013 follow-up Machine for Pigs, which was actually developed by The Chinese Room, was more of a slow burner, but still a welcome entry. If you want to have a quick glance at the new installment, you can check out some teaser footage below before you decide to download the demo.
Amnesia: The Bunker will be available on PS4, Steam, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. There don’t appear to be any plans for a PS5 port at the moment.
