American McGee is famous for some really creepy titles, such as American McGee’s Alice and the work he performed on Id Software’s classic first-person shooters. Nowadays the good man runs a China-based studio called Spicy Horse and a Kickstarter campaign has just been launched for their next project. Will it live up to his admirable legacy?
Akaneiro: Demon Hunters is a combination of the creepier side of Japanese folklore and the story of Little Red Riding Hood, which by now makes me wonder what kind of grudge McGee has against famous fairy tales. Gameplay will consist of traditional Action-RPG elements and apparently it’s also going to be free-to-play, which is surprisingly generous. According to the video featured on the Kickstarter page, the game is just about done, but still needs a little financial push to string everything together.
The current goal is to raise a total of $200,000 before February 2 2013, but backers have already amassed a neat $24,001 at the time of writing. This brings the current average per backer to about $40. Let’s hope this one will get the money it needs to make that final stretch. Those interested in investing their money can win a variety of in-game items or even name parts of the game. Is anybody going for that $10,000 flight to Shangai?
