Alone in the Dark 2 Set to Join PS Plus Extra and Premium Catalog

Sony appears poised to add Alone in the Dark 2 to the PlayStation Plus Classics catalog, based on recent PlayStation Store listings spotted by PS Deals, a site tracking updates on PlayStation’s marketplace. As reported by Gematsu, listings for both PS4 and PS5 versions of this survival horror classic suggest it may soon be available to subscribers.

Originally launched in 1996 on PS1, Alone in the Dark 2 follows Edward Carnby in 1923 as he faces supernatural horrors within the eerie Derceto mansion. The game’s description on the PlayStation Store teases: “The sequel to the critically acclaimed Alone in the Dark, this new adventure sees our hero, Edward Carnby, in 1923 confronting the many faces of evil in the darkness of Derceto, a house in which entering is the easy part and leaving could be hell!”

Earlier this year, Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare (2001) also launched on PlayStation Plus following a similar leak.

However, the latest Alone in the Dark release didn’t quite meet expectations. In mid-year, Embracer Group confirmed the closure of Pieces Interactive, the studio responsible for reviving this legendary horror franchise. While both Alone in the Dark and Outcast: A New Beginning received a warm welcome from players, they faced mixed reviews from critics and ultimately underperformed, according to the publisher.

The recent Alone in the Dark installment took inspiration from Capcom’s remakes, using a close-up character view and blending shooting, puzzles, and exploration. While it included fan-favorite elements, its execution fell short.
