Whether you’re an avid PC gamer or a console gamer that’s never quite felt the need to invest in a quality gaming PC, you have to admit that one of the biggest strengths of the platform is the modding tools many PC developers give to their communities. Often if a title has a good set of mod tools, the modding community will practically overtake and reinvent a game and create something completely fresh. Look no further than industry giants like Counter-Strike and DOTA, both of which started out in the hands of mod makers.
One game that has quite a hefty modding scene is Killing Floor, a co-op multiplayer first person shooter where you face waves of increasingly more difficult enemies, think Left 4 Dead meets Gears Of War’s horde mode with some bullet time gameplay mixed in. I’ve owned the game for years now but it never really hooked me and kept me playing for any sort of extended period of time. Well thanks to a group of modders by the name of WPC, they may have just renewed my interest in the game, as their Aliens mod aims to burst it’s way onto your PC.
The mod started out as a simple M41A Pulse Rifle weapon skin for Killing Floor, but quickly grew into a much more expansive and ambitious project. When they call it an overhaul, they aren’t kidding, the mod apparently successfully recreates the experience of James Cameron’s 1986 classic! With maps textured and designed to look like the Hadley’s Hope colony, player and weapon skins redone to look like the Marines and their arsenal from the movie, and an expansive audio pack full of sounds and quotes from the movie. Most interesting is the rework of the in game enemies, which are sporting new Alien skins, and even the AI has been redesigned to mimic the movement and behavior of the Xenomorph from the film, they even created Facehuggers and an Alien Queen!
If you want to see it all in action but don’t own Killing Floor, then check out the gameplay video below.
If you do own Killing Floor however, you can download the Aliens total conversion mod right now(check Source below), it only released a few days ago. Despite Gearbox’s Aliens: Colonial Marines only mere days away, it’s important to highlight the incredible amount of dedication WPC has put into their mod. You can certainly tell this was a passion project by a group of big time Aliens fans, I hope their mod flourishes.
