After many years of waiting the day gamers and Alien fans have eagerly awaited is finally upon us, Aliens: Colonial Marines has officially gone gold. The announcement came straight from the official Gearbox blog, confirming that the game is ready and will meet it’s February 12th release date.
While it should come as no surprise that the game has gone gold considering how close we are to the release date, it’s certainly an odd feeling to those of us that have been following the game since it’s inception period. Way back in 2001 there was another game titled Aliens: Colonial Marines developed by Check Six Games that was ultimately cancelled. Later in 2006 Sega bought up the game distribution rights to the Alien franchise, and announced they were working with Gearbox Software on a new Aliens game. It wasn’t even till 2008 that the actual title for this new Aliens project was revealed as Aliens: Colonial Marines. What followed where some dark times where the game was delayed countless times, and new information on the project was few and far between.
So here we are, all these years later with the announcement that the game has gone gold, many fans probably feel just like Ellen Ripley did at the beginning of the original Aliens film when she finds out she’s been in cryosleep for 57 years. It’s appropriate then it seems, cause now it’s time for a bug hunt.
