The PS5 Pro, which promised key upgrades like enhanced ray tracing hardware and PSSR upscaling, has delivered mixed results in early tests. According to a report from Digital Foundry, Remedy’s Alan Wake 2 runs at a notably low internal resolution of 864p in its 60fps Performance mode. This resolution matches the base PS5 despite the PS5 Pro boasting a 45% boost in raw hardware power.
The fact that Alan Wake 2 doesn’t see a significant resolution increase has caused concern among gamers. Many had hoped the PS5 Pro would eliminate low-resolution render targets, but the use of PSSR upscaling only improves pixel quality, without a major visual upgrade in some cases. As a result, Fans of Remedy’s survival horror sequel don’t have much incentive to upgrade.
However, not all titles struggle with the same issue. Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart demonstrates the power of the PS5 Pro, running at an internal resolution between 1440p and 1800p, while maintaining a smooth 60fps. In comparison, the base PS5 achieved 40fps at similar settings.
On the other hand, games like Assassin’s Creed Shadows also render at 864p in Performance mode, raising questions about whether the PS5 Pro can consistently deliver the performance boost players expect from the new hardware.
