It’s been a big year for Spike Chunsoft and Aksys Games’ Zero Escape series of visual novels.
Following the acclaimed release of Zero Time Dilemma in late June, Aksys announced at Anime Expo last month that they were officially porting Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors to “other platforms” with the addition of updated visuals, voice acting, and other new bells and whistles (in fact, I’d argue that the upgrades are so substantial that it qualifies more as a pseudo-remake rather than a simple port).
Though only a snippet of the Japanese voice track was shown during the Anime Expo reveal, Aksys confirmed yesterday on Twitter that not only is English VA currently being recorded, but also that Evan Smith is apparently reprising his role as Junpei from Zero Time Dilemma‘s dub.
The dialogue showcased is the fan-favourite “funyarinpa” line, which in addition to being just as charming and funny as I’d hoped also seems to hint at the scope of the 999 remake’s voice acting. If even the silly optional joke lines are being voiced, it’s not unreasonable to expect the dub to be as extensive as Virtue’s Last Reward and Zero Time Dilemma.
No details regarding a release date or even the exact platforms on which the game’s launching have been confirmed, so be sure to keep checking back as we await official confirmation.
