Agni: Village of Calamity Is a Resident Evil-Inspired Indie Horror Game

Agni: Village of Calamity

Here’s something that should be on every horror fan’s radar: Agni: Village of Calamity, a gritty and atmospheric survival horror game in development by Indonesian indie studio Separuh Interactive.

If you’ve been craving a return to the fixed-camera, classic-style horror popularized by early Resident Evil games, this one is absolutely worth keeping an eye on.

Built in Unreal Engine 5, Agni: Village of Calamity is shaping up to be a love letter to the genre’s golden age — with a modern twist. Players take on the role of Agni, a no-nonsense investigator from a covert Indonesian police unit.

Agni: Village of CalamityAfter disobeying direct orders, she ventures into a mysterious rural village that seems frozen in time and steeped in something deeply sinister. Ominous warnings be damned — Agni is determined to uncover the truth.

The 13-minute gameplay video shared by the devs offers a promising peek at what’s to come: atmospheric environments, fixed camera angles that ramp up the tension, and an eerie sense of isolation that’s honestly rare to find in most modern horror games.

The game leans hard into cinematic presentation and puzzle-solving, with that creeping, methodical survival horror pace that has potential to get die-hard fans intrigued.

Agni: Village of CalamityOf course, being an indie title, Agni isn’t without some rough edges. Animations and polish aren’t quite AAA-level, but the ambition here is undeniable — and frankly impressive. The fixed camera system is bold, the lighting is moody and effective, and thanks to UE5, it already looks pretty damn good.

As for system requirements, the minimum specs ask for an Intel i5-8400 and GTX 1070, while the recommended setup includes an i7-10700K and RTX 3070 (which just so happens to be my setup, so I’m in luck.) The game will support both DirectX 11 and 12 and requires 65GB of disk space.

There’s no release date yet, but this game is one I will be keeping my eyes on. Agni: Village of Calamity may not be on your radar now — but if it sticks the landing, it could end up being a sleeper hit in the indie horror scene. Stay tuned.
