We have less than a week left until E3 commences and, as you can imagine, the excitement is pretty much up to a maximum. While today we’ll be getting a look at what Konami has to offer at this year’s show it’s time to see what SEGA has up their sleeves for us horror fans at this year’s E3. Yeah, you know what game I’m referring to: Rise of Nightmares. What do we know about this game thus far? Or better yet, what could we learn about this Kinect-exclusive survival horror title from its E3 showing? Let’s take a look.
According to the information we already have, Rise of Nightmares is an exclusive Xbox 360 game that can only be played by utilizing their “your body is the controller” motion peripheral, Kinect. Back when this revelation first surfaced, survival horror fans, and Kinect owners alike, were happy to know that the motion device would be getting a dose of hardcore in what was otherwise a family-friendly device. Now, thankfully, we have some more info to chew on.
Rise of Nightmares takes place in a huge castle belonging to a deranged man by the name of Viktor. It isn’t just an ordinary edifice, though, and you’ll be tasked to take on hordes of the undead. Being a Kinect-game, you’ll be controlling the protagonist exclusively through your body motions. We’re being promised complete immersion with this horror game and if it ends up being a success we may eventually see decorated horror franchises take the hint and give us some Kinect-enabled horror.
But how far will this sense of immersion go? Well, according to the first details from the game, it’ll branch out to traversal of the castle as well as actual combat scenarios and puzzle-solving. With an array of weapons expected in the final release, one can’t help but wonder about how tired one would be after surviving a horde of enemies, but hey, immersion is immersion and this makes it all the better. Traps are also said to be in the game, set up by both the madman running the castle and you yourself in order to get the upper hand on enemies.
All that sounds quite promising and we’re expecting to see much more from this game next week at E3. A full trailer and some gameplay footage should be fair game. And like aforementioned, this may see the uprising of more games within the horror genre being made available for the Kinect, perhaps ones belonging to already established franchises as well. Resident Evil Kinect, anyone?
