Rely On Horror’s 2024 Game of the Year is . . . Silent Hill 2 (2024)

Silent Hill 2After internal discussions among the Rely on Horror staff, we’re excited to announce that Bloober Team’s Silent Hill 2 (2024) is the recipient of the Rely on Horror 2024 GOTY award!

Below, we have written our thoughts on why Silent Hill 2 deserves recognition and praise.

The Silent Hill 2 Remake is my personal GOTY because it brings back endearing memories of the original while introducing enhanced graphics and gameplay. Bloober Team did everything right here despite so much initial fan backlash, and they deserve their praise for a job well done. Not only is the story more emotive and thought-provoking this time around, but I could really feel the heights of James Sunderland’s despair and hopelessness. Silent Hill is a living, breathing town in the remake, and it was a joy to play such a masterpiece of horror gaming.

As I said in my review, Silent Hill 2 (2024) isn’t just a nostalgic reimagining of a genre classic,  it’s a fresh and improved experience compared to its predecessor. It reinvents and reinvigorates the game, and improves the cinematic and emotional weight of the storytelling, oppressive atmosphere, sound design, exploration, and immersion in the town itself. All of these improvements make for a game that appeals to both horror old-school horror fans and those unfamiliar with the series. There’s a reason it was one of the most talked-about and praised genre titles upon release.
