For fans of psychological horror, and those fortunate enough to have purchased an Xbox 360, Alan Wake has more than answered the call. This game has received exceptional reviews and continues to be a fan favorite for those with a taste for the horror genre. But who exactly is Alan Wake?
Editor’s note: Be sure to check out our official review of the original game, where our Editor-in-Chief gave the game a perfect 10 out of 10.
Alan Wake is a best-selling author, who is experiencing a two year episode of writer’s block. In an attempt to clear his head, his wife has organized a vacation to the small, mountain town of Bright Falls, Washington. The vacation quickly takes a turn for the worst when Alan discovers his wife Alice has gone missing. Alan must now arm himself and face the darkness in order to recover his wife.
Alan Wake was designed by Remedy Entertainment, which is most closely associated with the creation of the Max Payne series. Remedy’s style is very evident in Alan Wake, as sequences of bullet-time and niche dialogue are frequently utilized in this title. The ironic narration takes over in most cut scenes, leaving players with a sense of style most often encountered in a Stephen King novel, and the action simply resembles a hike through a trail of nightmares. This title has become more than a “one and done” rental for fans, which is why so many people are wondering if there will be another release.
After the success of Alan Wake, and the release of two DLC levels, Remedy Entertainment has decided to move forward with this title. While they have expressed that there will not be a sequel to Alan Wake, Remedy has been quoted as saying that a new, stand-alone game is currently in the works. The latest addition to Alan Wake will be released exclusively on Xbox Live, which means players will only able to obtain a digital copy. This news had concerned many fans of the series, but Remedy assures that this new release will be structured like a full game.
Remedy Entertainment plans to announce their new title at the Video Game Awards on Spike TV this Saturday, Dec. 10th. Make sure you have enough batteries.
