I hope you all had a great 4th of July weekend but now it’s time to kick-start the week! Amidst all the festivities going on this weekend, I still managed to get in some gametime with Lords of Shadow (like always!). This time I had my mind focused on one thing, though: completing all of the trials.
Ater more than 100 hours of gameplay, I’m kind of ashamed to admit that I still didn’t get the Platinum trophy for the game. The reason being those damn trials! Don’t get me wrong, they’re not horrible whatsoever, but some of them are just truly difficult. Which is a good thing, of course, especially for those that may have thought the main game was too easy. It also added greatly to the replay value and I’m sure all the trophy/achievement whores out there definitely made it their mission to complete all of the game’s trials. So, for today’s installment of DailyVania, I want to know which trial proved to be the hardest for you. As always, leave your responses in the comments section below!
One of the hardest trials for me had to be the one in the abbey tower level in chapter 5. The trial in this level was to succesfully destroy 100 boxes and barrels scattered around the exterior of the tower. Yeah, that sounds easy, but you soon realize it’s not due to the time limit you have. Whenever you destroy a box or barrel, your time limit increases, giving you a better chance to see the whole trial through. But if you’re slow at it and miss a box or two then you’re pretty much screwed and are left with having to restart the level.
Trust me, I’ve had to restart this particular level many, many times. But don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying this trial will prove to be just as much of a challenge for you (if it hasn’t already) but to me it was quite a hardship. Did I forget to mention the inclusion of a good amount of enemies while you’re trying to complete the trial? Yeah, you have to deal with a horde of gremlins and ghouls all while you’re trying to spot and destroy every last box and barrel.
My reccomendation for completing this trial succesfully? Use a lot of holy waters and quick strikes. You definitely have to be quick when going from box to box so you’re not going to want to just stand in front of each box one by one and attack it individually at a slow rate; you’re going to want to try and get as many in a couple of strikes with your whip as possible. Then for the horde of enemies that come at you, you’re going to want to throw some good ol’ holy water at them seeing as how that usually takes down a good bunch of them in one hit.
Another trial which proved to be quite a challenge for me was the one that requires you to beat the Stone Titan under a time limit. A similar trial was also set for the other two titans in the game: the Ice Titan and the Dracolich. But for some reason the Stone Titan’s trial proved to be the most challenging out of them.
What you want to do here is use the purple crystal as soon as you can. Then, after the Stone Titan throws the boulder your way you send it right back and then you dash towards it right away, until the cut-scene plays. Once the cinematic is over you’re going to want to dash whatever distance you have left to get to the somewhat downed titan. From there on it’s all up to how quickly you can scale the giant boss. But trust me, you’ll feel a great sense of satisfaction and accomplishment once you complete the trial. It’s one thing beating the boss normally at your own pace, but it’s another thing to do it all while under a tight time limit.
So, which trial in the game did you find to be the most challenging? Was it one in the main game or was it in one of the DLCs? Sound off in the comments below and also feel free to share some strategies with your fellow gamers!
