Castlevania Lords of Shadow will be releasing next month on the PS3 and 360. Consider me totally hyped and in full throttle anticipation mode for this title. Not, just because it looks to be the first truly amazing 3d title in the long-lasting franchise, but because of all the classic enemies and elements we’re going to be seeing replicated in full 3d glory. More specifically, I’m dying to see how Gabriel encounters Death and Dracula, the two main-stay antagonists in the series.
Especially Death, he’s one of my favorite villains in video game history. A recurring threat to whoever is graced with the unlucky task of trekking to Castlevania and vanishing Dracula. Death is always there as a roadblock for the player, and in Symphony of the Night he does quite a lot to elongate your trip. What with him stripping Alucard of his precious gear and equipment. Until finally, you make your way to the inverted castle and finish him off.
I bring up the encounter from Symphony of the night , because that happens to be my favorite favorite Castlevania game, as well as my favorite game of all time. But I’ll go more in depth on that in another article. I just wanted to showcase Death as a character here. He’s been through multiple cosmetic changes over the years since his 8 bit incarnation. So this begs the question, how will he appear in Lords of Shadow? Below I’ve posted a pic of what is supposedly Death’s concept art, or it could be Necromancer. We may not know until we play and beat the game for ourselves.
What do I expect from Death in Lords of Shadow? Well, I’m actually going in with high expectations, not just for the game itself, but for this specific boss encounter. I mean, I don’t believe we’re going to be receiving another epic Death/Dracula fusion battle, which was awesome! But, judging by the bosses we’ve already seen, it’s safe to say that Death, or at least one of his forms, might be of epic proportions in terms of actual size and the battle itself. And this is what excites me the most about Death in Lords of Shadow.
I know, I may be getting my hopes up quite a bit, but hell, this game looks promising. And I’m going into it with the mentality of this being one hell of a stand alone Castlevania game, not comparing it to Symphony of the Night or other classic vanias. I’ll be sharing more of my thoughts on this game as we get closer to its release , but for now, let’s speculate whether or not this is Death! And could he in fact be the 3rd Lord of Shadow after Carmilla?
