‘Haunting Ground’ Character Designer Joins New Bokeh Game Studio Project

In a tweet released earlier today by Bokeh Game Studio, the developer announced that renowned Capcom character designer Tatsuya Yoshikawa, known for his work on Haunting Ground and the Mega Max X and Breath of Fire series, will be joining the team to work on their upcoming project.

Bokeh also released a companion video that explores Yoshikawa’s background in the industry and elaborates on his role on the project. In the video, the designer talks about how he rose through the ranks at Capcom to eventually end up in charge of a new art style for the character designs in the popular Breath of Fire series. He also talks about the challenge of designing human characters for the new Bokeh game and how best to translate 2D versions of them into 3D.

The studio has previously talked about the focus on sacrifice in their as-yet-untitled project, saying, “In this game, the scale these sacrifices take is quite nasty. The choice (of) whether you follow that path or not comes down to the player. I thought terrible the fact of how the game messes with the player’s mind. It gouges you in a good way.”

Bokeh co-founder Keiichirō Toyama has also spoken about the team’s intent behind the project and said that “…rather than something deeply rooted in horror, I want to keep an entertainment note. While keeping elements from horror, I want the players to feel exhilarated when playing the game.”

The developer said that the game is in the early stages of development and currently has an estimated release date of 2023. We’ll keep you posted as soon as we learn more details about this greatly anticipated title.
