Have you ever heard of Slender Man? He’s an internet folk lore meme about a tall dark figure in a suit that stalks people. Slender Man does not attack people, he just watches.
The Slender game takes this meme and puts it into videogame form. In Slender, a free Unity based PC and Mac game, players have to move around a large, dark forest looking for 8 pieces of paper. These pieces give you some creepy info on Slender Man. The catch to the game is that Slender Man is also in the forest. He simply watches you as you progress through the environment. Looking upon Slender Man makes the game go fuzzy and can lead to a game over if stared at for too long.
The creepy catch here is that the more you look at Slender Man, the closer he will be to you the next time you see him. Avoiding his gaze becomes harder and harder over time. I couldn’t get all the pages before he was directly behind me. When he got too close to look away, I jumped a little bit. I am seeing a lot of comments from terrified players, though. I wish the game affected me the same way. I guess I’m just dead inside.
It’s a creepy little freeware game, but don’t expect a game of significant length and high production value. The main website seems to be out of bandwidth, so try finding a mirror download in these Reddit comments. Try it out and let me know if it scared you.
