MiniDayZ, a game based on the popular DayZ Standalone (and ARMA mod), released a few months back as a fan game. Turning the realistic 3D survival sim into a cute sprite based game without foregoing the difficulty, MiniDayZ squeezes a good portion of the DayZ experience into a top down singleplayer title the likes of Project Zomboid, but with the familiar gameplay mechanics and items of DayZ.
Bohemia Interactive, developers of the actual DayZ, were charmed enough by MiniDayZ that the title has gone from fangame to an official Bohemia release. Adopted by studio, MiniDayZ is available for free on Bohemia’s website. If it’s anything like the full game, expect to be shot by a bandit for no reason at all except a perverse satisfaction on the bandit’s part. And maybe clown masks.
