We’re only a couple of months away from the release of Mercury Steam’s second part in their Castlevania trilogy, the 3DS exclusive Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate. With the game’s launch coming quite soon, on March 5th, it’s time for the ESRB to provide its rating.
The main descriptors for the content in Mirror of Fate are: Blood and Gore, Partial Nudity, Suggestive Themes, and Violence. Nothing all that surprising, I know, especially after the original Lords of Shadow. But it’s in the official rating summary for the game where things get interesting:
“This is an action-adventure game in which players assume the roles of several members of the Belmont Family as they battle evil forces in a supernatural setting. Players use whips, chains, axes, and other bladed weapons to attack a variety of fantastical creatures (e.g., zombies, werewolves, vampires, harpies). Boss battles contain more frenetic action, with interactive sequences that allow players to stab creatures close-up (e.g., cutting off creatures limbs/torsos; stabbing monsters in the eye). A handful of cutscenes depict human characters getting stabbed with large stakes. Enemies emit splashes of blood when struck, and some enemies burst into pieces when killed. During the course of the game, an extended sequence depicts a female vampire seducing a character while caressing a woman’s thigh. A handful of creatures briefly appear topless in battle, and a male werewolve character appears to have an appendage/genatalia between its legs.”
So, about that extended sequence. I’m going to say it has to do with Succubus and whichever Belmont goes up against her. I’m hoping Alucard is the one that fights her, which would be a nice nod to Symphony of the Night. Succubus might be trying to seduce Alucard in this scene.
Topless creatures aside, this rating summary confirms something quite dangerous for 3DS owners: an appendage between a male werewolf’s legs. How can that possibly be dangerous, I hear you ask? Well, being in 3D, this might just poke your eye out!
Oh, and in case you were wondering, the game is rated M for Mature.
