Dead Space 3 details from upcoming Game Informer (Update: More Details)

EA must not be too happy about all of these Dead Space 3 pre-E3 leaks. At least they have acknowledged that the game exists and that we will see its official and full reveal on monday during their press conference.

Some new details from the upcoming Game Informer preview of Dead Space 3 have been revealed. In the preview, reiterated by a NewGaf member, Dead Space 3 will be dropping its competitive multiplayer mode in favor  full fledged co-op support in the campaign. Additional cutscenes and dialogue between Isaac and Carver (the character from the motion-comic teaser) will only be available through co-op.

On the combat side of things, a cover system and universal ammo pickups (yuck!) have become part of the game’s combat system. Unitologist enemies will also be a part of the game, so this might mean that they will be packing some traditional weaponry and not spiky meat arms.

Worried that Dead Space was becoming a full on shooter? These new bits of info highly suggest that. Whether that means the game will lose much of its horror elements remains to be seen. It may be a small hope, but let’s hope anyway. E3 should provide some insight very soon.

Update: Since the time of reporting on the NeoGaf thead, the OP has added more information about the game.

The newest of the necromorph horde are The Fodder, The Feeder, and the mysterious ‘Snow Beast’. The Fodder type can become two different species of necromorph depending on how it is killed. The Feeder sounds great because it is not turned into a necromorph by traditional means. Instead, a Feeder is created when a starving human eats the flesh of a necromorph out of necessity. Awesome. They’re definitely playing on the icy theme and going all Donner Party with these guys.

Visceral will make Dead Space 3 less linear than the previous titles in the series. As rumored, the game will take place on the icy planet Tau Volantis. The game will feature larger environments and a “beta” or side-missions that are not required to finish the game.

Going back to weapons, it looks like weapons can be combined and scraps to upgrade them can be acquired via fallen foes. Lots of new info here. We’ll keep an eye open if anything else shows up between now and EA’s conference on Monday.
