E3 2015: DayZ to get singleplayer mode for PvE and Mod Testing

During PC Gamer’s PC Gaming Show last night, DayZ lead producer Brian Hicks announced that the game will be receiving a singleplayer mode of sorts. I spoke to Hicks after the show for clarification regarding what the singleplayer mode is exactly, and he explained that it will essentially be PvE, where a player has the whole world to themselves. Singleplayer will task players with simply living in Chernarus, finding food and fending off zombies.

Hicks also announced DayZ‘s impending mod support that will utilize Steamworks and a custom toolkit made by Bohemia Interactive. The team wants the game to have a very large mod scene, and the singleplayer mode will double as a mod testing ground. Also announced during the show was that Bohemia aims for the game to be feature complete later this year, meaning it will have all planned content and enter a polishing stage.

I have already sunk 400 hours into DayZ, and while it’s still clunky, everything planned for the game is incredibly promising. We’ve just got to wait.
